Membership & Eligibility
Anyone up to the age of 84 years old may apply for membership, subject to approval. We offer individual, family, extended family, and group scheme cover options.
To become a member, you must provide:
A copy of your Identity Document
Birth certificates for children (if applicable)
Payment of the R50 joining fee
Consent to be insured
Yes. We accept new members up to 84 years old, making our funeral support accessible to a wide range of individuals.
Yes. We offer cover options for stokvels, social clubs, and other group schemes.
Cover & Benefits
We offer three funeral cover options:

R8,000
R10,000
These cover amounts are designed to assist families with essential funeral expenses.
Our cover provides a cash payout upon the death of a covered member. Benefits also include:
Repatriation within and around South Africa
Claims processed within 48 hours (subject to valid documentation)
Yes. Children can be covered under applicable family membership options.
Our cover is designed to assist families with the essential and immediate costs associated with funeral arrangements. We aim to provide meaningful support rather than replace full funeral services.
Waiting Periods & Contributions
Yes. A six-month waiting period applies to natural death.
Yes. Accidental death is covered immediately after the first premium payment has been made.
If a member falls behind on contributions, written notice will be issued. Membership may be suspended if payments are not made within the required time. Membership may cease if contributions remain unpaid for more than two months.
Yes. Contributions may be adjusted by the Board of Trustees with proper notice to members if necessary.
Claims Process
Valid claims are processed within 48 hours after all required certified documents have been submitted.
The following certified documents are required:
Death Certificate
Identity Document of the deceased
BI-63 Form
Claimant’s Identity Document
Police report (for accidental deaths)
Claims can be submitted directly to our office. Our team will guide you through the process to ensure everything is handled efficiently.

Yes. Phakamisana Burial Society is underwritten by Meerkat, ensuring secure operations and reliable claims payment.
Consent is required to ensure that members are properly informed and legally covered under the funeral policy, providing transparency and protection for all parties.
The Society is governed by a Board of Trustees responsible for overseeing operations, managing contributions, administering claims, and protecting the interests of members.
